The "Foradenes" restaurant story began in 1918 when Grandma Anneta started to cook her delicious dishes and desserts not only for her large family but also for the people of Syros.
She created the first restaurant on the island. It's name? "Foradenes", the nickname of the family of Chios, origin of the home of our Great Grandfather Michalis Pantelis. They were called this because they owned female horses (Foradenes) but also because they were big and proud like their horses.
Her daughters, Irinoula, Katina and Hariklia participated in that effort. Irinoula was a talented business woman. Katina was a very good cook and Hariklia was their very good assistant.
The fame of the restaurant for its good food and the kindness of the owners spread across Greece. It was no coincidence that so many important people such as Onassis, King Paul, Mr. Karamanlis, Alexis Minotas, Irini Papa, George Bush Sr. and Sotirchos visited it.
In 1998, Hariklia, because of old age, gave the restaurant to her younger brother, Captain Kostas Foradis, who protected and supported his sisters after our grandmother's death.
So, after 80 years, Anna and Irini, Captain Kostas' daughters, reopened the restaurant, with the invaluable help of Ageliki, who is an equally good cook as their grandmother.
Staying faithful to tradition they revived their grandmother's cuisine. They willingly offer homemade food, hospitality and good service to all their customers because they regard them as "their own people" who come to visit them.
